New in the Gallery: 1962 Topps CFL Football Cards

This week I added 1962 Topps CFL cards to the Vintage Football Card Gallery. There are 169 cards in the set, about 21 per team. Most Topps sets contain about 10-12 cards per team, so many of the players in the 1962 CFL set were making their first appearance on a card.
As usual with non-NFL sets, I enjoyed finding players who had played in the NFL but who had not appeared on cards for their NFL teams. Pictured here are three of the those players: Hal Ledyard played for the 49ers in 1953, Chuck Quilter played for the 49ers in 1949 and 1950, and George Scott played for the Giants in 1959. I identified a few other ex-NFL players, as well; just browse the set to see them.

Didn’t these cards come in pairs? Thus, ‘half the size’ as standard cards as your description reads. I researched this set briefly when looking for players that were drafted by the Cowboys but never played for them. Norris Stevenson in this set is one of those players.

I believe most of them did, Steve, and the two cards had a perforation between them. I think they also came already cut into individual cards, because I have cards with four smooth edges and no signs of perforation. I don’t know how the individual cards would have been packaged, though.

I’ve can’t figure out an interesting variation. By Bailey has a card with the Winnipeg team card attached to him

And a card with #2 Nub Beamer attached to him

And a card by himself.
I’d like to know more about this set at I collect WSU players.
Thanks, Tony
